On the same day Prime Minister Justin Trudeau extended Canada’s recognition of the United Nations’ International Decade for People of African Descent, a delegation of Black anti-racism advocates levelled accusations of anti-Black racism against the country’s highest court, and called into question the federal government's capacity to meet the decade's promise. First reported by The Toronto Star, the delegation of researchers and advocates had been invited to the Supreme Court on Jan.

“It’s not that those issues aren’t related; it was just so unrelated to what we were going there actually to do,” Symonds added, noting that he wouldn’t have found it acceptable if the objection had been to the topic at hand, either. Additionally, Symonds said the delegation’s exclusion raises concerns about the Court’s impartiality.
