Shazad Khan made no plea when he appeared in court after two blocks of flats were evacuated in Glasgow.

A man has been charged with explosives, firearms and drugs offences after suspicious items were allegedly found at a flat in the west end of Glasgow.Shazad Khan, 50, made no plea when he appeared before Glasgow Sheriff Court.

Mr Khan, who was remanded in custody, faces charges relating to the Explosive Substances Act, the Firearms Act and the Misuse of Drugs Act. Police Scotland said the street had been reopened but a cordon remained in place at the property as a precaution. A force spokesperson added: "The majority of residents have been allowed back into their homes however a small number of properties remain evacuated."

Emergency services including a hazardous materials support unit and members of the armed forces, attended the incident on Thursday.
