One of the community groups attending a Human Settlements meeting in Cape Town, has bemoaned the fact that beneficiaries of government’s housing programme, also known as RDP units, are allowed to sell the houses. A representative from the Heideveld Development Forum, Vanessa Adriaanse, spoke during an engagement that the Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi had with community members and Non-Governmental Organisations on the White Paper on Human Settlements.
Besides the engagements with communities, the public can also give input on the paper. Adriaanse has suggested that the current stipulation, that beneficiaries of RDP houses are allowed to sell it after eight years, should remain in the new intended law. “Our input is, you can never get house because its needed and then you sell it.
