MANILA, Philippines: Retired Supreme Court Senior Associate Justice Antonio Carpio on Wednesday said the country is on the right track in asserting its sovereignty in the West Philippine Sea but at the same time called on the government to employ a 'systematic' approach in combating the massive disinformation campaign by China and 'continue to rely on international law since it has no 'credible self-defense force.' Carpio commended President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

The former associate justice said Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte-Carpio has been silent and has 'not uttered a single word on the West Philippine Sea' dispute.The Hague Tribunal in 2016 favored the country over China's claims in the WPS, but then-president Duterte belittled the victory and compared it to a piece of paper fit to be thrown in a wastebasket.
