City leaders are wary of increasing fires caused by scooters and e-bikes

Years in the making, San Francisco is poised to set new safety standards for battery-powered devices like e-bikes and scooters.

“People aren’t going to be written up on day one and get tickets,” Peskin said. “We’re going to work with people to make it safe.” The devices’ batteries have to meet recognized safety certifications unless they are being charged outside.
