The ECOWAS Court of Justice in Abuja has ruled that some sections of the Nigerian Press Council Act of 1992 violate citizens' rights, including their right to freedom of expression. The court has ordered the immediate amendment of these sections to align them with international best practices.

The ruling came in response to a lawsuit filed by two Nigerian journalists, Isaac Olamikan and Edoghogho Ugberease, who claimed that the Act was discriminatory and infringed upon their freedom of expression
