'Thinking about giving this child that name makes me feel physically ill.'

The Redditor’s fiance took the mother-in-law’s side Deciding what to name your child is one of the single most important decisions a parent can make — but as exciting as the process is, it can also be agonising. On Reddit, one expectant mother has been pushed to the limit and has clashed with her mother-in-law after refusing to use her ‘dream name’. The 26-year-old explains that she’s currently pregnant with her fiancé’s baby; something the extended family are ‘over the moon about.

’ She adds that while her fiancé also likes the name, he ‘understands how feel’ and attempted to talk to his mother about it. But things soured when the mother-in-law stressed it was her ‘dream’ to name a baby girl ‘G’ — and that if the woman doesn’t do this, she ‘doesn’t know if she’ll ever forgive .’ The poster even offered a compromise of making a slight variation of ‘G’ her daughter’s middle name, but at this point, the mother-in-law started crying and accused her of being ‘irrational.
