The Legal Profession (Amendment) Bill marks a “substantial stride forward” in advancing Singapore’s legal field, particularly in addressing the concerns over ample practice opportunities for aspiring lawyers, said MP Yip Hon Weng.

Speaking in Parliament on Tuesday , he highlighted the critical clarifications needed. Firstly, Singapore must address the practicality of ensuring top-notch training for all, especially in smaller law firms. Secondly, safeguards must be put in place, as the training practice period will be extended. Thirdly, the relevance of the Bill has to be evaluated given the evolving legal landscape and its potential impact on the shortage of legal professionals.
