Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change Minister Yeo Bee Yin said the law would be part of the proposed amendment to the Environmental Quality Act 1974. “Polluters must pay for the mess, but what if the culprits are lorry drivers? How to force them to pay millions in damages? They will be declared bankrupt and the government will still have to pay for the mess.

Asked when the new law would be introduced, Yeo said her ministry was working on the matter and had been in close contact with Attorney General Tommy Thomas.

The penalty should cause serious liability and pain to the defaulters (individual or company). Else, just another money matters agenda which eventually channel the cost the consumer and byproduct.

Mull over it till Kingdom comes but what of the culprits behind the Pasir Gudang Tragedy?

yeobeeyin Instead of charging the polluting company alone, please charge each director, manager and staff involved separately, so you can collect 4 or five times the normal fine. If they can't pay, bankrupt them. That will be a great deterrent for would-be offenders!

Make the law, pass it, and ENFORCE it!

100% agree...

TIME THEY FOOT THE BILL.

Mulls ⁉️ Smokers face RM10K fine 🚭 damn it‼️ What these brainless polluters do is the same as launching WMD 💣 They should be hanged,

No point having laws if those responsible for monitoring and checking are sleeping.. look at illegal logging, widespread dengue and darkly tinted car windows as examples..

Aik? Bkn ke masa kejadian Deepwater Horizon, Piper Alpha minyak tumpah kat laut, company tu yg kena byr cleaning cost? Environmental issue kot ni? Waitt... kat Malaysia belum ada act tu ke? 🤔

Firstly before making such a law..will the Ministry concerned setup an SOP by world standards in removing chemical wastes ; provide in each state a suitable disposable site like in Sarawak then you punish those not following the standards chedetofficial

U mean there isn’t a provision for that yet?

Good idea. !

Dont interfere if u do not wish to be interfered I can't believe that developed country like Singapore still hasn't abolish the death penalty. Regardless, Malaysia should focus on internal affairs instead of interfering with other country justice system. There may be some inconsistencies but it's the laws. Lawsaintperfect
