Closing arguments in the trial of the man accused of the murder of Ashling Murphy will take place tomorrow.
READ MORE: Ashling Murphy trial LIVE updates as jury hears from final witness ahead of closing speeches Dr Grundlingh said Mr Puska was noted to be alert having been given two 5 milligram doses of the opiate Oxycodone on the afternoon of January 14, 2022 - hours before he would confess to gardai in the hospital that he killed Ms Murphy.
"I'm of the opinion Mr Puska was not in a fit state to be interviewed,” the doctor told the court, adding that the opinion of a medical practitioner to determine if Mr Puska was fit to be interviewed had not been obtained. He also agreed with Ms Lawlor that according to the medical files he was given, that Mr Puska was tended to fairly regularly and that he was “alert and orientated,” and that there was no mention of him being confused.
The doctor’s evidence comes after Jozef Puska took the witness stand in his own defence last Thursday and Friday. Ms Lawlor put it to the accused that there was no other man and that he wasn’t trying to help Ms Murphy and that he “stabbed her 11 times and sliced her neck,” to which the accused said: “No, it wasn’t me.”
