The Government has approved new legislation to increase the number of judges in the Court of Appeal to deal with the backlog of cases.

Image: Niall Carson PA Images Image: Niall Carson PA Images THE GOVERNMENT HAS approved new legislation to increase the number of judges in the Court of Appeal to deal with the backlog of cases.

The new legislation will create three divisions of the Court of Appeal – civil cases, criminal cases, and backlog cases. There are now wait times of 20-24 months and “for some cases that is far too long,” said the Taoiseach.
