Former Portage County Common Pleas Court mediator Richard Steinle, 78, pleaded guilty Thursday to sending feces-smeared letters to Republican politicians.

CLEVELAND, Ohio— A former Portage County court attorney admitted Thursday to sending letters smeared with human feces to Republican politicians in Ohio and across the country., 78, of Mogadore pleaded guilty in federal court in Cleveland to seven misdemeanor counts of sending injurious material through the U.S. mail.

Steinle sent the letters from August 2021 through July 2022, when undercover postal inspectors watched Steinle mail a feces-laden card with a $1 bill to Jordan’s office. Steinle also sent letters to politicians in Washington, D.C., and Kentucky, as well as to federal courts in California.
