Network Ten star recruit Lisa Wilkinson, having been offscreen for a year, is about to face off against her employer in court, bringing a once-promising relationship to a potentially sour end.
After Lehrmann filed the case against Wilkinson and the network, Wilkinson sought advice from Bret Walker, SC, on whether she should be represented separately. She then hired high-profile defamation barrister Sue Chrysanthou, SC. Later, George advised Wilkinson she was entitled to full indemnity, including damages and defence costs.
Chrysanthou is also considered one of the nation’s top defamation lawyers, often acting against the media for high-profile claimants including“If you’ve got two lots of lawyers, you could see that unreasonably duplicate costs for the defendants, and potentially for the claimant,” George said. Speaking on background, two lawyers noted Wilkinson’s year-long absence from television screens, and lack of plans for a return, probably gave rise to the conflict of interest between employer and employee, leading to different levels of concern for her public reputation.
