Mills Jr. is changing his plea from not guilty on federal charges that he violated Tyre Nichols' civil rights by fatally beating him after a traffic stop in January 2023. A change of plea hearing has been scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 2, for Mills Jr., according to court documents and his lawyer.
Mills is facing federal charges of excessive force and obstruction of justice, as well as related state charges related to Nichols' death.U.S. District Judge Mark Norris is expected to make the final decision at an upcoming sentencing hearing.State prosecutors are expected to agree to the sentence previously reached in federal court.The DA stated that Nichols' family supports this plea deal.
