The man accused of organising the shooting that killed Ashley Dale said he got involved in conversations about buying sub-machine guns because he was "young and stupid" and "trying to act hard".
Witham has admitted kicking down the door of the house Ashley and Harrison shared and spraying the property with bullets from a Skorpion submachine gun. Witham, who has pleaded guilty to manslaughter but denies murder, will claim he did not see or hear Ashley and was instead attempting to "send a message" to Harrison, who was not present at the time.
Barry said the message referred to getting a gun from a man known as 'Gibbo', who he described as a "drug user". He replied: "Yes I did, yeah. I just knew where one was". However, Barry told the jury he had never actually owned or possessed the weapon. He said: "I just knew there was one in a house by ours that a drug user was minding."
Barry said: “I was yeah. I was just young and stupid. He said these are gone now, I said no worries.” When asked for what purpose he wanted the guns, he said: "I don’t know, just to buy them. I could have been selling them on. I don’t know. I was possibly going to sell them on. I know it sounds terrible but I’m telling the truth. I was planning on selling them on and making a profit."
