A Missouri appeals court has ruled against a Republican-written description of abortion-rights ballot measures, calling his summaries politically partisan.

FILE - Missouri Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft speaks to reporters, June 29, 2022, at his state Capitol office in Jefferson City, Mo. A Missouri appeals court on Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2023, ruled against summaries written by Republican Secretary of State Ashcroft that described several abortion-rights amendments as allowing dangerous and unregulated abortions until live birth.

Ashcroft’s original description would ask voters whether they want to “allow for dangerous, unregulated, and unrestricted abortions, from conception to live birth, without requiring a medical license or potentially being subject to medical malpractice.”
