Aptakisic-Tripp School District 102 officials offered “huge congratulations” to one of its middle school students who was named a national champion in a sport growing in popularity. Sakshi Mathur, a sixth-grader at Aptakisic Junior High School, competed in the National Junior Squash Gold Tournament in September, SD102 officials mentioned in a district community newsletter. “My favorite thing about playing squash is that it’s a high-intensity and fun sport,” she said.

According to the newsletter mention, she had just aged up from GU11 to GU13 in August. Following the tournament, Sakshi was ranked number 29 in the country in her category for squash, according to the newsletter. “You’re amazing on and off the court, Sakshi!,” officials said about her achievement. Squash — the game — very similar to racquetball and not to be confused with the edible fall fruit, is a favorite of more than 20 million people worldwide.
