Current and former prisoners who file valid claims they were illegally strip serached will be paid $450 each when the settlement is finalized, according to court filings.

A New Jersey Superior Court judge has approved a $2.25 million preliminary settlement agreement over claims that nearly 5,000 prisoners were illegally strip searched at a county jail.in which four ex-prisoners — Jamar Parrish, Darius Snead, Samuel Rosado and William Garrison — alleged they were unlawfully strip searched at Cumberland County Jail after they were arrested separately on non-indictable charges.

Judge Niki Arbittier approved the preliminary settlement agreement Oct. 23 and set a date of April 5, 2024, for a hearing to finalize the plan. This isn’t the first time Cumberland County has settled a claim over strip searches at the jail. It paid $4.5 million
