Benjamin Mendy and his friend Louis Saha Matturie exchanged ‘misogynistic’ messages which exposed their alleged attitudes towards women, it can be revealed. But the judge in their trial resisted moves to show them to jurors deliberating on their cases, even though he said they showed the pair had ‘lost their moral compass’.
Another said nobody was to come into the cinema room in Mr Mendy’s house in Prestbury because of plans to have sex there. “I’m going to f*** the tall one but the Spanish girl LOL,” read another message. During legal argument, Mr Cray argued the messages showed a ‘reckless attitude to consent’, which crossed a line ‘into a predatory attitude towards consent’. They showed ‘what the defendants actually thought’ and exposed ‘entrenched attitudes’ and a ‘voracious appetite for sex’, he claimed. “There’s the assumption that all these women once they are at parties are available for sex," Mr Cray added.
Mr Cray said there was ‘enough’ from the two years of messages, adding that the messages were ‘certainly misogynistic’ and that ‘any right-minded person would characterise it as hateful and a bad attitude’. Mr Cray said the defendants believed that if the girls drank more they were ‘more likely to consent’. He added: “We say they are incapable of consent.”
