College basketball coaches are becoming more like CEOs on a 24/7-style schedule. The transfer portal along with name, image and likeness legislation have turned them into businessmen as much as coaches.

FILE - Virginia head coach Tony Bennett argues a call during the second half of an NCAA college basketball game against Duke for the championship of the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament in Greensboro, N.C., Saturday, March 11, 2023. FILE - Connecticut players and coaches celebrate their win over San Diego State in the men’s national championship college basketball game in the NCAA Tournament on Monday, April 3, 2023, in Houston. Connecticut won 76-59.

“You can’t stick your head in the sand and say, ‘This is exactly how it was,’” Tony Bennett said. “You adjust. You make changes. I got less than six figures at Michigan for the year.”It is also not entirely clear how much Jayhawks coach Bill Self had to do with lining up Dickinson’s NIL package.
