Supreme Court announced it's expanding the scope of the case against the Trump admin.'s decision to add a citizenship question to the 2020 census, agreeing to decide whether the move violated the Constitution.

against the Trump administration's decision to add a citizenship question to the 2020 census, agreeing to decide whether the move violated the Constitution.

The move comes after a federal judge in California ruled earlier this month that Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross, whose agency oversees the census, violated the Constitution's Enumeration Clause because the citizenship question prevents the government from conducting an accurate count of every living person in the country.A New York federal judge also blocked the administration from including the question, ruling in January that Ross"violated the public trust" by adding it.

Ross has argued that the question was added at his direction after he received a letter from the Department of Justice in late 2017 that said the data was needed to properly enforce the Voting Rights Act. Ross came under intense scrutiny for the move and recentlyThe Supreme Court previously said it would examine whether the question violated federal administrative law. The court will hear arguments in the case in April and rule before its term ends in June.

Just curious. Does this go to all addresses? Random shipments? I’ve never sen any of these

Seems to me that asking a question is constitutional, although requiring that it be answered might not be (you can't be forced to implicate yourself in a crime, for example).

Scottst79743752 This is all about the process in which he got this put on the census. He must present it before Representatives 3 times for approval. He lied about following the rules & perjured himself. He was caught in that lie because he did not get the final approval. 1/

Wonderful News. Got um by the short and curlies.

He LIED under oath about it. I hope he is held accountable

I am so glad. Yes please place it back along with the finger prints too. They could make a fake ones still, but with the actual finger prints along with the proof of citizenship, I think it would be near perfect. Even legal Aliens should NOT be allowed to vote. Only CITIZENZ! Ty

This worries me, with the current SCOTUS. When is Ross going to be indicted for lying to Congress, etc.? He'd better be.

I don't see this being unconstitutional. There's a legal precedent where the government can ask you your citizenship status. You fill it out every time you get a letter for jury duty service. Both state and federal.

For decades politicans kept claiming 11 million illegals are in America , with illegals sneaking in each day, the number was manufactured to keep saying 11 million when its at least 20 million to 50 million.

Good , this should not be unconstitutional! We should be able to count that accurately and if money is provided to states based on info ok . But census should reflect the citizens!

RickyRayinGA Only citizens may vote period!

🤣 🤣. Citizen questions on a cencus... How dare him...

Talking about taking the pulse of a government 'body'! This is like an acid test!

Democrats love illegal aliens

Opinion | How the Supreme Court weakened Congress on emergency declarationsTo understand how a 1983 Supreme Court decision dramatically affected the way the government works, consider what Congress had intended when it passed the National Emergencies Act. seems like a problem that should have been fixed 30 years ago, not when someone they don't like is using power they have Resolutions are meaningless jibberish until they are signed by the President, which will not happen. The basis of your whole story is false. What hasn't the Supreme Court weakened in the last 30 years? They've destroyed any chance at removing money from politics. Gerrymandering. Guns. Voting rights.
