The mum of the man accused of driving Ashley Dale's killer cried in the witness box as she was questioned over her son's alibi.
Today Peers' barrister, Peter Wright, KC, called Mrs McMahon and her husband, Thomas McMahon, to give evidence in support of their son's alibi. Peers had claimed to the jury that he had been dropped off at the family home in Woodlands Road, Roby, by Witham at around 11.10pm on August 20, just over an hour and 20 minutes before the shooting.
"If someone knocked and stayed at the gate, I could see who that person would be. Someone tapped on the window or the door, I can’t remember. The dogs were barking. We’ve got a guard dog, all she does is bark... She added: "I just put it in the skip at the recycling centre. I didn’t think we needed it. If I’d been a bit more on the ball, if I knew everything what was going on, I’d have probably kept it.”
Mrs McMahon replied: "You put the evidence there to say I’m a bare faced liar. You're making assumptions about me. Don’t. When you have evidence to say ‘Mrs McMahon, you’re a liar’, you can do so. I’m sorry.” When asked about the CCTV, he said the "recording thingy-o" had been damaged, and that it "had got binned".
