Amcu signs fresh petition for recognition at Springs mine

SPRINGS - The Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union has signed a fresh petition to be recognised at the Gold One Modderfontein mine in Springs.

The trade union is up in arms, accusing mine management and rivals, the National Union of Mineworkers , of refusing them organising rights.Some mineworkers have resurfaced after days of gruelling conditions underground.- NUM says miners that resurfaced at Springs mine escaped from hostage situationAmcu held a mass meeting with others outside the mine perimeters on Wednesday, circulating a new petition.

More than 100 people joined the petition to terminate the closed shop agreement between mine management and NUM.Amcu regional leader, Tladi Mokwena, accused their rivals of failing in their mandate. "The NUM has for a number of years failed to adequately represent the interest of employees and we have decided to move to a new union."
