UN secretary-general Antonio Guterres has been speaking about the situation in Gaza, saying: 'I'm deeply concerned about the clear violations of international humanitarian law that we are witnessing.' But Israel's UN ambassador calls for him to resign.

The Israeli military has killed at least 50 people in the last hour, a spokesman for the Hamas-led health ministry has said. Ashraf al-Qidra said the IDF has expanded areas of its targets across the Gaza Strip.

It comes after the ministry said Israeli air strikes had killed more than 700 Palestinians in one day. Mr al-Qidra said it was the highest number of deaths recorded in 24 hours since the conflict began more than two weeks ago.
