word that A24 has successfully won the television rights to iHeartPodcasts and Novel’s weekly true-crime podcast called The Girlfriends. The series adaptation hails from The Dropout writer-director Michael Showalter.The Girlfriends chronicles the real-life story of a group of women, who have come together to bring a murderous ex behind bars.

“It tells the true story of a group of women who clubbed together to bring a murderer to justice and illuminates how women unite to protect each other when the system fails them,” reads the podcast’s official logline. The adaptation will be directed by Showalter, whose directing credits include Netflix’s Grace and Frankie, Max’s Search Party, and Apple TV+’s The Shrink Next Door. He is also best known for directing romantic comedy movies such as The Big Sick and The Lovebirds, as well as for writing the satire comedy Wet Hot American Summer. It is executive produced by Jordana Mollick, Conal Byrne, Will Pearson, Carrie Lieberman, Julia Bromberg, and Neil Krishnan.
