Connecticut justices issued a 4-3 decision that reinstated a wrongful death lawsuit and overturned a lower court ruling on a 2005 federal law

In this Jan. 28, 2013, file photo, firearms training unit Detective Barbara J. Mattson, of the Connecticut State Police, holds a Bushmaster AR-15 rifle, the same make and model used by Adam Lanza in the 2012 Sandy Hook School shooting, during a hearing at the Legislative Office Building in Hartford, Conn.

The majority of the high court agreed with most of the lower court’s ruling and dismissed most of the lawsuit’s allegations, but allowed a wrongful marketing claim to proceed. Connecticut’s child advocate said Lanza’s severe and deteriorating mental health problems, his preoccupation with violence and access to his mother’s legal weapons “proved a recipe for mass murder.”

The case was watched by gun rights supporters and gun control advocates across the country as one that could affect other cases accusing gun-makers of being responsible for mass shootings. Several groups, ranging from the National Rifle Association to emergency room doctors, submitted briefs to the court.

Who would have been sued for America's worst school massacre where no one was shot? Who would liberals blame for the 38 school children and 6 teachers massacred with no gun used?

piersmorgan KatiePavlich I thought that the bushmaster is the one that can penetrate an armour vehicle from a distance of two miles away

I wish instead that a policitian with a set of balls and a sense of ethics (and perhaps political suicide) could stand up to change their laws instead.

The aim is to get these weapons away. How to accomplish this? Not many politicians that will endorse this because it’s career suicide. The threat of lawsuits might convince the gunmakers to stop making assault-style weapons. Win-win. No politician has to risk his/her job.

Should the parents of 3 children killed by Marco Muzzo using liquor be allowed to sue the liquor manufacturer for marketing their high intoxicating product to impaired drivers?
