Smollett Pleads Not Guilty to Lying to Police Over Alleged Attack

Actor Jussie Smollett pleaded not guilty in a Chicago court Thursday to multiple counts of lying to police when he reported being the victim of a racist and anti-gay attack in late January, his lawyer said.

Mr. Smollett, who stars on the Fox television show “Empire,” has been accused of planning and faking the attack, in which he said he was approached by two men who yelled slurs about his race and sexuality—and then physically attacked him before placing a rope around his neck.
