Dan Kay was a driving force within the campaign for justice over Hillsborough both in his personal life and with the ECHO

Dan Kay died suddenly aged 45 in July. Today, Sunday, October 22, the inaugural Annual Dan Kay Memorial Trophy was played for the first time at the Liverpool Academy in Kirkby. Dan worked at the ECHO between 2003 and 2021 in various roles, including deputy head of web, national news editor and live content editor for both news and sport.

He was a driving force within the campaign for justice over Hillsborough both in his personal life and with the ECHO - where he was central to the coverage that stemmed from the disaster, most poignantly of the inquests that led to the ruling the 97 innocent men, women and children who lost their lives as a result of the tragedy were unlawfully killed.
