It says amendments to the Atomic Energy Licensing Act 1984 should also apply to other industries which produce naturally occurring radioactive materials residue.

Lynas Malaysia maintains that its operations are low-risk and in line with all applicable laws.

The matter was brought up in the Dewan Rakyat by Nor Azrina Surip , who asked how the proposed amendments would help in the management of naturally occurring radioactive materials or NORM residue. “We assume any changes will apply to all industries regulated by the Atomic Energy Licensing Board, including oil and gas and steel processing,” Lacaze told FMT.
