Analysis: Legislation banning LGBTQ discrimination could split the Republican Party

A supporter of LGBTQ rights holds up an"equality flag" on Capitol Hill. By Eugene Scott Eugene Scott Reporter covering identity politics for The Fix Email Bio Follow March 13 at 3:17 PM This week, Democrats will launch a new effort to pass the Equality Act, a sweeping bill that would ban discrimination against the LGTBQ community.

The measure, which would update the Civil Rights Act, has been introduced before. In 2015, it couldn’t get through the Republican-controlled Congress. Additionally, businesses have come out in favor of the measure. A growing number of high-profile firms have signed on to the Business Coalition for the Equality Act. Mark King heads diversity and inclusion at the Kellogg Co., one of more than 160 businesses in support of the Equality Act. He said in a statement:

The bill represents the most invasive threat to religious liberty ever proposed in America. Given that it touches areas of education, public accommodation, employment, and federal funding, were it to pass, its sweeping effects on religious liberty, free speech, and freedom of conscience would be both historic and also chilling.

manaskunt Darn?

it won't pass the senate or the president. They loaded this up with crap. They added in the civil rights act that they voted against in the 60's.

They have the same rights as all Americans. They don’t deserve special privileges.

Fake news.

Umm..I hope they pass it overwhelmingly just to prove you wrong and show we are not who the media portrays us to be. Many of us have LGBT family members that we adore

As long as I’m not forced to do something for someone who happens to be gay because I don’t like them as a person and they abuse their “right” I’m fine.

They need to be reasonable, and the bullying on the lgbyq side needs to stop.

You produce FakePolls

I will never understand why people are so offended by things that don't affect them or are none of their business. STOP trying to control people! It's not hard.

KWyszkowski LGBT is an anti-human and anti-family nonsense trying to destroy what has been normal for thousands of years! LGBT is perversity, rapists, pedals and perversions destructive NORMALITY! WE WILL NOT LET US DO IT! you are too weak, anti-human garbage from LGBT!

Nothing could be more split than the personality of a gender dysphoric libtard. What's the status update on fake news getting sued by a teenager? 😂

Every person is entitled to his sexual orientation. we live in 2019. Please, drop the thought embrace every person's right to her life.

A lot of the gop are closet gay. Rumor is, d.c has more gays than San Fran. Too Manu gop have voted against this while participating in homosexual relationships.

could, anything could

Welcome to the 21st century. Gay, straight - who cares! Why invest so much time creating laws discriminating against people who are your sons, your daughters, your brothers, your sisters!

Fakenews.

So, I'm wondering if business owners, first responders, pharmacists and others can refuse services to LGBTQ people, can they, in turn, refuse services to Evangelicals. Seems fair.

It’s called Civil Rights. What’s so hard about that. It is a foundation of our constitution.

You’d think these ghouls in the GOP would band over some hate mongering.

How hard is it NOT to HATE an entire group of people - the majority of whom you have never met?

Or not

Hahaha nope. They’re beholden to the Evangelical right, they’ll all vote against the Equality Act.

The temptation of Anthony (by Jan Theuninck, 1999)

Ah yes! Let's force hundreds of millions of religious people to act against their religious beliefs. Kill the bill.

Between the out republicans and the ones still in the closet?

lol yeah right... if our morally bankrupt president hasnt, this wont.
