The following is a statement from Mobile Branch #5044 of the NAACP President, Robert Clopton, regarding the slamming of a child by a City of Mobile police officer on October 17, 2023, outside of Accel Academy.

“The Mobile Branch of the NAACP is deeply troubled and disturbed by the video that shows a Mobile Police Officer body slamming a 16-year-old student to the ground. The Branch is demanding a thorough investigation and justice in this case and all violent acts of this nature especially when they are perpetuated upon a youth by an adult who’s sworn to Protect and Serve. This is totally unacceptable.certification on de-escalation and apprehension to ensure that:

1. Proper de-escalation and apprehension techniques are always used on all citizens of Mobile, as compliance will decrease occurrences like this and the accompanying complaints. 2. Trained and knowledgeable members of law enforcement involved in acts of this nature will be placed on unpaid administrative leave pending the resolution of their investigations.”
