Police have opened investigation papers on the rally as it was not authorised by the police

The International Women’s Day celebration march held in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday.

KUALA LUMPUR: Police today recorded statements from three organisers of the rally held in conjunction with the International Women’s Day celebration which saw the participation of LGBT supporters and activists at Dataran Merdeka here last Saturday. Dang Wangi district police chief Shaharuddin Abdullah said the organisers were summoned by the police to give statement pertaining to the rally.Yesterday, Deputy Inspector-General of Police Rashid Ibrahim said police had opened investigation papers on the rally which he claimed was not authorised by the police.

Last Saturday, several NGOs, including the Women’s Aid Organisation and Sisters in Islam, organised a women’s march in conjunction with the International Women’s Day celebrations.
