The trial of the five men accused of killing former Bafana Bafana captain Senzo Meyiwa has been postponed as two of the accused bolstered their defence. Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya and Bongani Ntanzi who have been represented by Advocate Sipho Ramosepele added Advocate Thulani Mngomezulu to their defence. On Monday, Ramosepele told the court that Mngomezulu will be dealing with the aspect of the alleged confessions made by Sibiya and Ntanzi.
Presiding Judge Ratha Mokgoatlheng postponed the matter to Tuesday, 17 October to grant Mngomezulu time to consult with Sibiya and Ntanzi. Last week, a trial within a trial commenced with retired police officer Mhlanganyelwa Mbotho testifying that he took Sibiya’s written confession. He also dismissed Sibiya’s claim that he was assaulted, suffocated and forced to sign the confession by police saying Sibiya is the one who told him that he wants to confess.
