WARSAW, Poland - Polish opposition parties are tipped to win a parliamentary majority in Sunday's election that would end eight years of rule by the populist Law and Justice (PiS) party, according to exit polls.

This combination of photos created and taken on October 15, 2023 during the parliamentary elections shows Polish Deputy Prime Minister and leader of the PiS party Jaroslaw Kaczynski casting his vote at a polling station in Warsaw, Poland, and Donald Tusk, leader of the main opposition party Civic Coalition casting his ballot at a polling station in Warsaw.

The 66-year-old Tusk served as Poland's prime minister between 2007 and 2014 and as European Council president between 2014 and 2019. Stanislaw Mocek, a political analyst at Collegium Civitas, said:"I think that this is actually the end of the PiS government". Marciniak said some polling stations ran out of ballot papers because of the large influx and voting had to be extended.
