The singer was publicly named by the BBC after being accused of sexual assault, even though he was never arrested or charged.

"Hence the importance of Fair's campaign to change the law to provide for anonymity before charge in sexual allegations and hence my continued work with Fair in the future."Sir Cliff added that had such a law existed at the time of the raid on his home, the operation would not have been filmed and he would not have been named., who himself has been accused of historical sex offences, has welcomed the support of the singer.

The allegation was made as part of Operation Yewtree, which set up in 2012 in the wake of revelations about the serial paedophile Jimmy Savile, but the case was dropped after the radio presenter spent a year on bail. Another backer is the former Conservative MP Harvey Proctor, who like Sir Cliff had his home raided and was publicly named after being accused of being a child murderer and rapist.

The 72-year-old spent a year facing the the allegations, brought about by a doomed Metropolitan Police sex abuse probe dubbed Operation Midland, before he was finally cleared.

Innocent till proven guilty

It’s only the guilty who want anonymity the innocent don’t need it

On condition that if the person in question gets a not guilty verdict or the charges get dropped, they don't get thousands in compensation.

Not sure what all this is about ! There was a sniff of scandal in the late 60s, early 70s . Again , no proof or evidence . Is Crimen injuria still valid over there ?

Kitty ! G'day

How about forgetting the courts and just let accused be judged and sentenced on Twitter? There might be lots of hangings and accidents from people tripping over thrown away keys but the masses will be happy, eh?

Why are those 3 BBC News individuals still in their roles. They thought they were so clever that they deserved an award. Cost us a fortune.

Absolutely agree, trial by media before even being charged is not how the justice system should work!

UK officials ignored muslim grooming rape gangs for fear of being branded racist bigots

Not a fan of Cliff Richard but 100% agree with him on this and feel really sorry for the way he was treated.

the truth will come out you aint got away with your crimes YET

He probably backs anonymity of the Mary moss list from ElmGuestHouse Oh sorry he already got that.

Has me thinking of Mandy Rice-Davies - I don't know why!!! 'HE WOULD, WOULDN'T HE?' Perhaps he should reflect on his actions in the 1960s that are anything but 'Christian' & remember what our Lord said about harming little ones, milestones & being drowned. CHARLATAN.

He’s absolutely right. Conviction then name. And some comments on here back that up.

Some people lie'some people know Why?

Do what he wants and plenty of celebs wouldn't have been convicted, cause victims wouldn't have come forward.

Well said cliff Richard

No smoke without fire.. That's all I'm going to say..

He's a Kitty with 9 Lives.
