Opinion: On Sarah Isgur controversy, CNN equivocates, waffles, embarrasses itself and retreats

Sarah Isgur as a Harvard Law School student in 2007. By Erik Wemple Erik Wemple Media critic with a focus on the ups and downs and downs of the cable-news industry. Email Bio Follow Media critic March 8 at 6:13 PM If CNN is going to announce that it has surrendered its vaunted editorial independence, it’s best to do it on a Friday afternoon, when people are unplugging a bit.

— Sarah Isgur March 8, 2019 The move from CNN political editor to political analyst is a significant one. As a political editor, Isgur would surely have shaped the network’s coverage in some way or other, though her precise duties were never terribly clear. At one point amid a backlash about the hire, CNN said that she would “coordinate coverage across TV and Digital,” as if there weren’t already hundreds of employees at CNN who tend that particular garden.

Among those disenchanted with Isgur’s accession to CNN was the Democratic National Committee , which managed to secure assurances from CNN that Isgur wouldn’t be involved in CNN’s work on Democratic debates.

The tweet from Isgur on Friday afternoon delivered on those CNN assurances. As a political analyst, she’ll be like any other pundit.

LeChatNoire4 Until they let her go AND be up front about Rick Santorum’s lobbying roll (stop referring to him as a former senator only), I’m actively boycotting them. My time is precious and I’m not being involved in their scams. Shame on them.

What were they thinking, really? She has no skillset to match the job they hired her for. She’s a right wing mouthpiece. No idea what they thought would be the response to hiring an unqualified political hack, but they got what they deserved.

You are all go the same way as the Dodo. You had an absolute monopoly. And you chose to be dishonest, and biased. Now you have zero credibility. As long as you print Orange man is bad. You hold onto the people with TDS.

She was hired because........

FAKE CNN US A FRAUD!!

Presumably, CNN already experienced loss of viewers due to - at least what seemed to me to be a - sudden shift to the right via flurry of right-leaning, Trump apologist reporters, pundits, et al; hopeful they'll work to restore trust soon!

She’s a political hack. Don’t know what they were thinking.

The Left is so fearful of not having complete control of the opinion machine. Kind of like Joseph Stalin and Mao Zedong.

Millennial_Dems She presented herself for a job? CNN wants to be trash.
