Personnel from local, state and federal law enforcement agencies planned to join Clinkunbroomer’s family at Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels to honor the deputy, who had worked with the department’s Palmdale Station since 2018. He was 30 years old.
A funeral procession from the church to the cemetery was to follow, exclusively for family members except for the uniformed patrol motorcycle units leading it,. Officials learned of the possible suspect’s identity after someone came forward after Sheriff Robert Luna spoke to the media hours after the shooting.Clinkunbroomer followed his father and a grandfather by working for the Sheriff’s Department. His coworkers called him “Clink” and said he cared deeply about his community.
“He held this community in such regard and you could tell he wanted to make it even better. Safer,” Raymond Wilson, 58, said at a vigil held for Clinkunbroomer at the Palmdale sheriff’s station on Sept. 17. Law enforcement officials said they believe Salazar targeted the deputy because he was law enforcement; Salazar’s family said he suffered from mental-health issues, including schizophrenia and paranoia.
Salazar was charged with murder. He pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity at the Antelope Valley Superior Court and was being held in jail without the possibility of bail.
