The law governing the FDA's oversight of the cosmetics industry hasn't been updated since 1938.

Claire's disputes the FDA's test results, which found asbestos in three of its cosmetics products. By Taylor Telford Taylor Telford Reporter covering national and breaking news Email Bio Follow March 6 at 2:25 PM The Food and Drug Administration’s confirmation of asbestos in some Claire’s makeup has sparked calls in and out of the agency to expand cosmetics’ regulatory safeguards.

Because the FDA had no way to force the chain to take action, it issued safety alert warning customers to steer clear of the three products. Claire’s, which clawed its way out of bankruptcy in October after unloading $1.9 billion in debt, disputes the FDA results, claiming they contain “significant errors.”

The agency said it intends to review cosmetics manufacturers’ safety procedures, particularly with regard to asbestos. It also is creating a registry where makeup manufacturers, distributors and packers can provide health information about their products. — Rep. Frank Pallone March 5, 2019 Asbestos, a mineral fiber once common in construction materials, may occur naturally in the presence of talc, another mineral often used in powder-based cosmetics and products like baby powder. Inhalation or consumption of asbestos can cause serious respiratory diseases like lung cancer and mesothelioma.

Ladies, don't go cheap on makeup. Do yourself a favor, watch youtube makeup artist who reviews makeups from drug store to ebay you can afford better.

Chinese made crap flooding the market for young girls to use.

The FDA lets all kinds of cancer causing chemicals into make up. California’s and the EU have much more stringent requirements and the cosmetics companies manufacture different formulas for those areas, why not all over? Kids

OMG Johnson & Johnson had asbestos in their talc and look where it landed them. Claire’s is risking skin cancer law suits.

Cosmetic (and other) companies hide behind rules they create with their conies in government. Get rid of government interference in the markets and eliminate the shields companies hide behind.

Is having fireproof makeup really a bad thing?

Pretty much all make up has toxic chemicals, don't act surprised.
