A Leaving Cert student from Co Galway has pleaded for a chance to go to university and has appealed to the authorities for help with her legal status so that she can attend college.
"My parents have been working here and paying tax for 12 years, just like everyone else. They do everything right and legally, but we still have no legal status ... I need answers.She said that the current situation at home has also added to the pressure she feels. There should be a general amnesty for children caught in a bad situation like this through no fault of their own, then the loopholes should be plugged, the relevant authorities should do their jobs and the door should be slammed firmly shut so the system cannot be gamed again.
