EFF MP says McBride 'axed for doing his job' as Phahlane appears in court | IOL News

Parliament - As disgraced former top cop Khomotso Phahlane prepares to return to court later this month, some political parties have weighed in on his arrest saying it comes as a result of the work done by embattled Independent Police Investigative Directorate’s head Robert McBride. Phahlane was arrested on Friday morning and appeared before the Johannesburg Commercial Crimes Court in connection with corruption and fraud.

“The arrests relate to procurement irregularities relating to emergency lights amounting to more than R86million. Ipid conducted an investigation and gathered evidence of criminality,” said Dlamini. Phahlane was accused of taking kickbacks in order to secure tenders for police suppliers. It was also revealed that both he and his wife received cars from Snyman, which he had earlier claimed to be sponsored vehicles.
