Justice Minister, Helen McEntee, has sought a security review for TDs, Senators and others working in the Oireachtas.

It follows what she described as"appalling scenes of violence and intimidation" at Leinster House earlier this week.

Asked if this was being considered for all TDs, Minister McEntee said she would not pre-empt the outcome of the review and nothing should be taken off the table. Mr Donohoe said the ease of contact between the public and the public representatives is a real feature of our democracy, but that such a measure will need to be considered.

He said gardaí had done an excellent job responding to provocation and attempts of intimidation and they were prepared for the incident with a large amount of protective equipment and fencing.A Dublin TD has said she was"not surprised" by the scenes outside Leinster House.
