Paul Mulligan, a frequent Qantas flyer who relies on his assistance dog Hugo day-to-day, said he runs into hurdles every time he travels due to the airline’s poor disability staff training and policies.
Mr Mulligan alleged his complaints to the airline go unheard and he is frequently passed between representatives around the world, who are unable to answer to why he faces a number of troubles ahead of flying. Mr Mulligan said he is a frequent flyer with Qantas but runs into hurdles he claims the average passenger does not face. The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission earlier this year recorded Qantas as being the leading company - not just airline - with the greatest number of complaints from customers. Virgin Australia has also faced disability discrimination claims and was found unjust by the federal court when the airline failed to allow a customer’s service dog onto their plane.
In a statement published in February, Mr Sackville said the reports “indicate that people with disability often experience avoidable challenges when travelling by air and that more can be done by airlines and domestic airports to address those challenges”.
