Identity of Lawyer X to be revealed | Sky News Australia

The identity of the gangland lawyer who sparked a royal commission because she ratted on her clients to Victoria Police is due to be revealed on Friday afternoon.

Lawyer X acted as a registered Victorian Police informant from 1995 to 2005 and helped officers to arrest and charge hundreds of people, including clients during the notorious gangland wars. After years of court battles, her identity will be revealed despite fears held by Chief Commissioner Graham Ashton for her safety.

RitaPanahi I have to ask this question...Lawyer X gave info about drug criminals to the cops and they’re howling about conflicts of interest and cases needing reviews. How is this different from an undercover cop playing the role of a drug dealer and gaining evidence to convict crooks?

RitaPanahi The way I see it, organised criminals are at war against society. Nothing should be off limits when prosecuting them. Rita seems to want to treat the war on organised crime as a game.

RitaPanahi It starts with good intentions, and ends with you serving time on a trumped up charge to cover some cop's ass. Cops should be upholding the law...not breaking it. They should be policing themselves, instead they protect each other. The good cops shouldn't cover for the bad.
