A Vatican spokesman said Pell's guilty verdict on child abuse charges was 'painful news which we are very aware has shocked many people not only in Australia'.

And one of the Vatican press corps' most experienced voices believes it is inevitable that Pell will be 'defrocked' - booted from the clergy - should his legal appeal against the verdict against him fail

"The Holy Father has confirmed the precautionary measures which had been imposed by the local Ordinary [bishop] on Cardinal George Pell, that is, while awaiting the definitive assessment of the facts, Cardinal George Pell is prohibited from exercising public ministry and from having any voluntary contact whatsoever with minors."

A Church source in Rome said Pell had been a "divisive" figure in the Vatican, and there would be some who welcomed the verdict. The source said, however, it was "not hugely discussed" as the verdict had become widely known in December. Instead, most were interested to find out what Pell had been doing since the verdict came down, what his plans were for an appeal, and his state of health.

On the weekend, Alazraki addressed the world's senior bishops at the Vatican abuse summit, telling them journalists would be "your worst enemies" if they did not "decide in a radical way to be on the side of the children"."You know better than I that abuses have been covered up systematically, from the ground up," she said.

He should keep his title so that we are all reminded that most priests are kiddy rooters

You know appeals can go on for ever. So when do people actually go to jail? I’ve also noticed that people with money seem to take a long time getting there. GeorgePell

Is that the title of senior IPA member? Protected by the IPA, legal fees funded by the IPA?

Title of what? Grub?
