STORY CONTINUES BELOW THESE SALTWIRE VIDEOSST. JOHN'S, N.L. — Two Newfoundland men charged with killing others — one with murder, the other with impaired driving causing death — are asking the country’s top court to hear their case.
Keeping had been scheduled for a jury trial in Grand Falls-Windsor in May 2021 but fired his lawyers the day before it was set to start and has been trying since then to get funding from the attorney general to hire private counsel. His efforts have been rejected by the director of the Newfoundland and Labrador Legal Aid Commission, the Supreme Court of Newfoundland and Labrador, and, most recently the Newfoundland and Labrador Court of Appeal.
