Letters to the Editor

Texas senators, I urge you to vote according to the evidence. This is your moment for courage. In the mid-1900s, a rich Texas oilman proposed that the wealthiest U.S. citizens should have more votes than the common man or woman. As ridiculous as this seems today, this front-page story about Ken Paxton’s allies pledging to act reflects this same idea.

This time the burden is on the Texas Senate to determine if it can rise above the failures of the past, which for many senators will require holding their hero, Attorney General Ken Paxton, accountable for his long record of improper behavior.AdvertisementPray for the Texas Legislature to show enough ethical behavior to bring an end to Ken Paxton’s reign as attorney general. The House did what was clearly needed. Now, the Senate needs to complete the process.

Let’s be clear — this trial was initiated by Republicans themselves, a pledge to clean house. Paxton’s conduct has long been a matter of concern, and it’s time these allegations are addressed.
