“There is no country in the world that has a corrupt judiciary and you will have a good democracy. The judiciary is unique to democracy and it should be treated as such.”
Speaking on the matter, a human rights lawyer, Tolu Babaleye, expressed concerns over what he described as the arbitrary handling of judiciary worker’s welfare, saying “A major curse of corruption is when a person is not well paid and what he or she is receiving cannot even take him home, there is a tendency that when a person wants to buy his conscience with money, he will fall.”
“The judiciary is the third arm of government. But if you look at the salaries of the Executives starting from the President, and National Assembly members, compared to how the judiciary has been treated, you will see that it is unfair.” “When you pay the judiciary well, you will discover that corruption in the system will be eliminated by at least 50 percent. Then the other percentage, you can look at another area to tackle it.”
“I think that is what better societies are doing. In that case, when a lecturer is underpaid, people don’t talk about it. That should also be part of our concern because this is part of what is creating social disorder in society.” “Let’s review the salary of workers generally so that they will be less prone to corruption. A man whose salary would not take him home, only God knows what he would be capable of doing when he suffers.”
