Revealing his plans as a Minister, Oyetola, expressed a desire to ensure that the country maximises its potential in fishing.
“I want to appreciate God for my appointment as Minister of Marine and Blue Economy. When I was younger, I used to go to the river to catch fish. I love to eat fish too. I can see some of my friends that were doing that with me then. At that time, we were not doing fishing as it should be done, because we used hooks that time.
“Foreigners are the ones catching our fish now and they take to neighbouring countries to sell. We have not done enough to maximise our potential in that area. “In western countries, they do build houses by the riverside because they want to fish. We have refused to tap into the potential we have as a country in fishing. I have realized that there is the possibility of economic gains in that area. We are going to turn it around for our gain as a country”, Oyetola concluded. All rights reserved.
