I agree with idea that excessive fines can do more harm than good, but not in all cases. Addictions are often better handled out of court.

How much is made in profits from selling? How much money is hidden in bitcoin by those who profit illegally? How much tax money uncollctd by IRS? Racketeering Using ain’t same as profiting illegally by selling. Excessive fines if crime was profitable. Glad he is recovered!

Good. Our ' Legal System' is ridiculously deficient. Every politician who endorses the 'War On Drugs' is a party to EVIL.

Excellent news. Civil asset forfeiture is nothing but government-sanctioned grift.

Asset forfeitures has become the new cash cow for some agencies and localities.

For selling drugs? They should have ran over you with that Land Rover. Fuckin shitbox ruining tour community.

The tragic way the world is turning out due to the climate crisis and global capitalism has been making people crazy for since the 1960s.

Supreme Court says constitutional protection against excessive fines applies to state actionsIn an opinion written by Ruth Bader Ginsburg, the justices ruled unanimously for a man whose Land Rover was seized after he sold a small amount of drugs. Will this be the same standard they take when the federal government tries to start seizing property for Trump stupid wall? RBG ⚖️So relieved you're back! Amazing! This is a great outcome, but it’s ridiculous that in 2019 some states and localities were actually arguing that the Constitution doesn’t apply to them. Supreme Court strikes blow against states that raise revenue by hefty fines, forfeituresThe decision, which united the court's conservatives and liberals, makes clear that the Eighth Amendment's prohibition against 'excessive fines' applies to the states. SCOTUS It's not 'Serve & Protect'....its 'Arrest & Collect' This is actually bad. It furthers the 'incorporation doctrine', a concept popularized by Justice Hugo Black (a KKK member BTW) that incorrectly argues that the 14th amendment goes beyond equal protection under the law and expands the Bill of Right to state and local governments. War over 'Peace Cross' puts Supreme Court in crosshairs of debate over government involvement with religionThe Supreme Court will be on trial itself this month when it considers the fate of a 40-foot Latin cross honoring World War I dead. I feel no sympathy for anyone offended by the Peace Cross or any other religious expression. The Establishment Clause forbids a Church of America vis-à-vis the Church of England or Ireland, but not religious symbols. All religions are cults... some just have more followers than others Put a baphomet right next to it
