Three districts defend their new policies of calling parents when students ask for gender-related accommodations.

Tues., August 15, 2023.In an almost two-hour hearing on Tuesday, a Monmouth County judge asked tough questions of lawyers for the state and for three Monmouth County school districts in a controversial case involving the rights of trans students and parents.

The arguments centered on whether school staff in three districts -- Manalapan-Englishtown, Marlboro, and Middletown -- must notify parents when gender non-conforming students of all ages ask for changes in their names, pronouns, bathrooms, changing facilities, or clubs or sports teams.
